The Big Island Visitors Bureau announced the launch
of its recently redesigned website: WWW.BIGISLAND.ORG
Please take a moment to browse this exciting new
site.
There is now a very detailed section on "Spa and
Wellness" travel. Our association is featured as a
related link on these pages.
Findings
from Yesawich, Pepperdine, Brown & Russell's 2006
Portrait of Affluent Travelers report recently
disseminated to Hawaii tourism executives indicate
that
nearly half of all affluent travelers -- defined as
having
household income over $150,000 a year -- visited a
luxury hotel or resort spa at least once during the
past
year. Others sought great meals. The report said spa
activity is increasing in popularity, and is one of the
primary purposes of vacation for a growing number of
travelers. "This trend appears to be a direct result of
the
growing level of stress in contemporary life, and
corresponding desire to be pampered," HVCB said in
summarizing the YPB&R report.
BIVB is currently working on its 2008 Marketing Plan
and requests your input and ideas on how to best
market spa and
wellness travel to Hawaii Island. Please take a
moment now to
provide us with feedback on the following survey
so that your voice and input
can be heard. If you have already done so, thank you!
MARKETING SURVEY QUESTIONS:
1) What can we do to increase the amount
of
spa
and wellness travel coming to the Big Island? How
do
we find higher-spending, highly-experiential
travelers?
2) How can we increase the length of stay through
spa
and wellness travel? How can we encourage visitors
to
travel around the island, highlighting the experiences
and activities in each community and region?
3) Tell us something about your own market and
interests and about how you want to grow your
business.
4) How can we build the brand of spa and wellness
on
Hawaii Island?
5) How can we stimulate demand during the soft
(shoulder) periods of April-June and September-
November?
6) How can we leverage Big Island Festivals, as well
as other events, to stimulate demand during shoulder
periods?
7) How can we convert cruise passengers to repeat
visitors by motivating them to return to the Big Island
for
a land-based vacation?
8) Any and all other comments and suggestions are
welcomed.
